Week 5

Gadgets and Inventors
Step 1, 2.
             Internet was invented by a group of american scientists and military men in 1969. It is used for storing, analizing information, for communication. It's now everywhere.
             YouTube. It was invented by Steve Chen, Chad Hurley and Jawed Karim in 2005 in the USA. YouTube is a video-sharing website on which users can upload, share, and view videos.
             Large Hadron collider is the world's largest and highest-energy particle accelerator. It was invented by scientists from over 100 countries. It was built by 2008 on the border between Switzerland and France.
             Web camera is a vodeo camera which feeds its images in real time to a computer. It was invented in 1991 in Cambridge (UK) by a group of US and UK scientists.
             GPSnavigator is any device that receives Global Positioning System signals for the purpose of determining the device's corrent location on Earth. It was invented by american scientists in the begining of 1990-s.
              Ipod is a line of portable media designed and marketed by Apple (the USA) and launched on October 23, 2001.
              Yota is the trademark of a Russian multination telecommunication services provider. It was invented in 2007 by Russian scientists (S. Sverdlov).

Week 4

Gadgets of the Future.
Step 1. I can see computers, robots, holograms, flying cars, touchscreens, electric chairs.

Step 2. There will be electric chairs. They will be warmed by electricity up to the necessary temperature. Besides, such chairs can be regulated up to the necessary hight by one electric impulse.
             Flying cars will easily take off and land as an aircraft. There will be flying cars for children and grown-ups. They will have different colours and unusual shapes (round, square and so on).

Week 3

 Gadgets of the Present
Step 1.* vacuum cleaner is a device that uses an air pump to create a partial vacuum to suck up dust and dirt, usually from floors. The dirt is collected by either a dustbag or a cyclone for later disposal.
              * A communicator is a mobile phone offering advanced capabilities, often with PC-like functionality. 
              * Cruise control is a mechanical, electrical, or hydraulic system used to guide a vehicle without assistance from a human being.
               * The Internet is a global system of interconnected computer networks to serve billions of users worldwide.
               * A smartphone is a device designed to connect a personal computer, video game console, mobile phone, MP3 player or personal digital assistant to the Internet without any wires.

Step 2.  Microwave is a type of oven that cooks food very quickly using very short electric waves instead of heat.
              Lap top is a small computer that you can carry with you.
              Dishwasher is a machine that washes dishes.
              Fridge is a cupboard for keeping food cold.
              Hair-drier is a machine that blows out hot air for drying hair.













 

Week 2

 Gadgets of the Past
Step 1. Lamp an object that produces light by using electricity, oil, gas. The first lamp was invented by A.N. Lodygin in the begining of 1870-s in Russia. In 1873 his lamps were in St. Peterburg to light the streets. They were made at glass. The  first lamp was lightening only for half an hour.












Step 2. Top gadget from the Past :
           1. TV
           2. Fridge
           3. Car
Step 3. TV is a thing shaped like a box with a screen, on which you can watch programmes.
            In 1884 Paul Gottlieb Nipkow, a 23-year old university student in Germany, patented the first electromechanical television system. TV is very popular nowdays.
             Our own survey was carried out among 10 students of our group. They were asked how often they use TV, if they find it useful, if it should be renewed, if they would take TV with themselves on a desert island and if they would use TV in future.
              All of them answered they always used TV, they found it very useful and it should be renewed. Everyone would take TV with him/herself if he/she were on a desert island. They will use TV in future.
              So, TV is a very popular and useful gadget now.

What is your understanding of the words “gadget” and “gadgeteer”?
 Step 1.Gadget is a small, useful, and cleverly-designed machine or tool. Gadgeteer  is a person who designes and likes using gadgets.
Step 2. Gadget is a small mechanical device or appliance. Gadgeteer is a person who delights in gadgetry.
